stood—is extremely valuable. “What can be done is to
compare changes in performance,” Bates added. “Are
the key pro;t drivers in the industry getting better over
time or worse?”
In anticipation of this year’s Distributor Pro;tability
Survey questionnaire, which will be distributed on May 1,
we thought a few current data points might be helpful.
Last year’s survey provides the foundation for the data
that will be collected in this year’s effort. What do the
beginning numbers suggest about where PEI members
and our industry stand right now?

While PEI distributors were not seeing quite the growth of other industries, the additional sales do bode well for the future. A 2. 7 percent increase in sales should be suf;cient to support higher pro;ts in well-managed enterprises.
