NEWS AND PERSPECTIVE
FROM PEI’S PRESIDENT
THE Leading Authority
PeI always has taken seriously its
mission to be “the
on the practices,
trends that drive our industry.
Take just two of many examples I
could cite. First, our recommended
practices documents. These 11 (and,
soon, 13) “how-to” manuals give thor-
ough, peer-reviewed solutions for the
biggest technical challenges you face.
A second example, the collaborative
online dictionary we call “WikiPEI”
( www.pei.org/wiki), allows any mem-
ber—anywhere, anytime—to become
better acquainted with the essential
terms and technologies of the industry.
As vital as these and other existing PEI
tools are, the truth is we are just get-
ting started. In the year ahead, PEI will
launch even more services and resources
to better target and speed the delivery of
key information. Let me mention four
areas in which you’ll see enhancements.
Training. Earlier this year, four states
that require recertification of under-
ground tank installers (Pennsylvania,
West Virginia, Maryland and Mississippi)
approved a PEI course for continuing
education credit. We’re also currently
evaluating a Canadian training program
that combines intensive classroom time
and apprenticeships for installers and
service technicians to determine if any
elements of that program can be effectively adapted to the U.S. market.
New Online Tools. Brand new this
month is a service that will help you
better comply with OSHA regulations
requiring easy access to material safety
data sheets (MSDS) on the products and
chemicals you use. The PEI website has
been enhanced with a new search function that allows you to locate and link to
these MSDSs. Check it out at
Virtual Education. The PEI Conven-
tion at the NACS Show, along with
other PEI-sponsored conferences and
workshops, will continue to provide you
with in-depth education and networking
opportunities. We also will begin using
webinar and video technologies to create
new online educational opportunities.
With these new options, you will be able
to enjoy certain learning experiences
from the comfort of your home or office.
